Austin, TX-based business advisor Bob Barker recently had an article in Texas CEO Magazine that related Doug Tatum’s acclaimed book No Man’s Land to another classic business text, Geoff Moore’s 1991 book Crossing The Chasm. According to Barker, the two books have a similar focus on how successful startup companies evolve into mature companies that earn sustainable financial returns.

Jerry Dilettuso, Newport Board Group partner who has been the CEO of several entrepreneurial companies, presented a seminar titled Five Roles of the CEO on June 16, part of the Business Leadership Center’s ongoing enrichment program at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. Funded by an endowment from Edwin L. Cox, the BLC was developed to complement the Cox MBA program with real-world experience provided by business leaders drawn from prominent national and international companies. Cox MBA students reflect the value of learning from speakers like the one with Jerry by participating regularly in the seminars although the sessions are not required. Jerry earned a Business Leadership Teaching Excellence Award for his presentation, which means that the students attending rated the seminar as a 4.8 or higher out of a possible “perfect” rating of 5.

Newport Board Group partner Kim Denney presented a Leadership Webinar on Persuasive Presentations on June 21 sponsored by the Women’s Energy Network of Houston. The session was part of a four-part program designed for women at all levels in the energy industry who want to become a relevant leader, expand their influence, build a powerful network, and make their leadership strengths more visible. Kim, a high level executive with major industrial companies before joining Newport, led the webinar. Jo Miller, CEO of Women’s Leadership Coaching, Inc. facilitated the session. Kim, a frequent speaker at industry and civic events in Houston, was recently named one of 10 Houston area women who are finalists for the prestigious Women on the Move program, according to an announcement by Texas Executive Women.
