Carolinas’ Partner Laura Bingham will facilitate a discussion, January 22, in Raleigh on Sheryl Sandberg's book Lean In, a #1 national best seller. Sandberg, COO of Facebook, uses personal anecdotes and research findings to make her case that “our revolution has stalled,” offering advice on how women can achieve their full potential. A TEDTalk in 2010 sparked the debate around Sandberg’s call for women to ‘lean in’ and ‘get rid of’ internal barriers which can work against success. In Lean In she asserts that there is a “leadership ambition gap” among women in the workplace that must be closed for power structures to change.

Newport partner Peter Duff continues his program of speaking engagements and articles around the subject of exit strategies and how companies fund growth. In doing so, Peter relates Newport’s key "No Man's Land" framework to what he sees his clients and other emerging middle market companies going through. Peter’s latest article emphasizes how a successful funding event requires preparation over a number of months and even years.

Helen Bulwik, Northern California Newport Board Group partner was recently quoted in San Francisco Chronicle regarding her retail knowledge and understanding of the consumer. According to Bulwik, consumers are “aware” of the health risks associated with toxic chemicals in over the counter items and are “demanding” that retailer giants examine and inform their customers. The article stresses that consumers are understanding market place changes faster than policy makers. On October 9th, Doug Tatum spoke to over 175 CEOs about No Man’s Land. In conjunction with introducing Laura Bingham and Bob Aquilino as Newport Board Group’s first partners in the Research Triangle area, Tatum spoke on the concept of No Man’s Land and what happens when your company is too big to be small, but too small to be big.
